Event Details

You’re invited to a one-day Highway Quality/Level of Service (Q/LOS) training course hosted by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). This class is intended for representatives of FDOT, local governments, consultants and others who deal with highway capacity and level of service at a planning or preliminary engineering level. Participants are expected to have previously taken FDOT’s basic class for conducting highway capacity and level of service analyses.

The course is primarily technical in nature with most of it associated with training on FDOT’s generalized service volume tables and recently-updated 2009 LOSPLAN software.

The analysis tools encompass level of service analyses for the auto, bicycle, bus and pedestrian modes. The course will address potential applications like project development site impact analyses and general planning applications. Please note no discussion on growth management legislatures or SB 360 is included in this training.

The 2009 Q/LOS Handbook includes updates in analytical techniques from recent research, updated generalized service volumes, and more cost-effective methods for gathering key input data. Some new features in the updated 2009 LOSPLAN software are:

  • Significant user interface improvements (all)
  • Software architecture renovation for better performance and reliability (all)
  • Spreadsheet-style tables for input provide more flexibility for data entry and display (HIGHPLAN & ARTPLAN)
  • Ability to export arterial projects to TRANSYT-7F, allowing for signal timing optimization as well as interface with the Highway Capacity Software and perform a simulation animation in TRAFVU (ARTPLAN)

As of January 1, 2010, FDOT will be reviewing all submittals using only the 2009 software and techniques in the updated package.

Please note that participants of this training will be qualified for 8 PDH credits.

There is no registration fee for the class. Computers and training material will be provided. Class size is limited to 60 people.

For those requiring overnight accommodations, a block of hotel rooms have been reserved at Hampton Inn, 4499 W. Commercial Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Please call (954) 735-7575 BEFORE December 3, 2009 for rate of $85/night (mention “Florida Department of Transportation”).
